The part after the fun
Finding yesterday’s residue in a toy can turn a happy purchase into a nuisance. Before choosing another design, look at how you would inspect the inside and clean it. A complicated shape is not automatically a better everyday choice.
Washable needs an instruction
Washable means the product can be cleaned by a specified method, not that every toy can go into a dishwasher. KONG discusses cleaning different toy types. Use the instructions for the exact item, including drying, rather than applying one method to everything in the basket.
Size is an individual choice
Check the intended animal, size guidance and use instructions. Inspect the toy for damage and stop using it if its condition becomes unsuitable. We have not tested chewing resistance or suitability for your pet. Ask your vet if you are unsure about an individual need.
Keep a small set that is easy to inspect
Think about where clean toys will dry and how you will separate them from used ones. A manageable rotation may be more useful than a large collection you cannot keep track of. The purchase should support a routine you can maintain alongside the fun.
Sources & method
References: KONG, “How to Clean a KONG” and its FAQ sections on rubber toys, plush toys and supervision. The instructions distinguish toy materials and warn against treating every toy as suitable for the same cleaning cycle.
Method: identify the exact toy, accessible surfaces, permitted cleaning method and drying arrangement before buying. Follow the individual item’s size and supervision guidance. We did not test chew resistance or certify suitability for any animal.

Define what washable means for the exact toy
Cleaning instructions and supervision are separate requirements.
Check which parts can be washed, whether removable inserts must come out and how the toy must dry. A fabric outer layer does not establish that a squeaker, battery compartment or adhesive can tolerate the same treatment. Follow the exact label instead of choosing a cycle because it works for another toy. If the toy cannot dry properly in your routine, a washable claim may offer little practical benefit.
Inspect the condition before returning it to use.
Look for damaged seams, loose pieces and changes in shape, and follow the manufacturer’s guidance on replacement and supervised use. Choose a size and intended use appropriate to the pet rather than assuming a popular product suits every animal. A hypothetical low-priced toy that is difficult to inspect or clean may be less convenient than a simpler design. Cleaning is not a guarantee against damage or every health risk.
